A new era for British dining

In 2022 Market Halls reopened its flagship venue Market Hall West End at the former BHS building on Oxford Street in London. Covering 37,500 sq ft over three storeys, the brand’s third site is set to become the largest food hall in the UK.

Appointed by Market Halls, we were asked to deliver the acoustic consultation for the building’s refurbishment. As a mixed-use site, including retail, event spaces and office suites, there were many factors to consider. We worked across several areas, including:

• Quantifying the sound insulation of the existing constructions
• Predicting potential noise transfer from the food hall to the more sensitive uses
• Advising on mitigation measures to ensure existing tenants are not disturbed by the new use

We carried out a series of measurements on site and at Market Halls’ Fulham branch. This enabled us to base our predictions on the typical noise levels and activity pattern to be expected.

Market Hall West End features 8 independent food vendors and two bars, with live music every Thursday and a DJ every Friday.
